Installing a VPN on an iPhone or iPad takes about five minutes. Every major VPN works the same way on iOS: you install the app, allow a VPN configuration once, and then turn the VPN on and off from the app or from Settings.
1. Pick a VPN
Choose one with an App Store app, an independent audit and the servers you need. Our VPN for iPhone guide compares them; Proton VPN has a free plan with no data limit, and Surfshark, PIA, ExpressVPN and CyberGhost offer a Saudi location if you need a Saudi IP.
2. Install it from the App Store
Search the App Store for the VPN by name and check the developer name under the app title. Fake VPN apps copy well-known names and icons. Install only from the App Store, never from a link sent to you.
3. Allow the VPN configuration
- Open the app and sign in or create an account.
- Tap Connect. iOS shows “Would like to add VPN configurations”.
- Tap Allow, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
- The VPN icon appears in the status bar when you are connected.
4. Choose a server
From Saudi Arabia, a nearby server in the UAE, Bahrain or Qatar is usually fastest. Choose a Saudi location only if you need a Saudi IP from abroad; remember that these are virtual locations served from other countries.
5. Check that it works
Open a browser and search “what is my IP”. The country shown should be the one you picked. You can also turn the VPN on and off in Settings, under VPN, or under General then VPN and Device Management.
If it does not connect
- Switch the protocol in the app’s settings; many apps offer WireGuard-based and stealth options.
- Try another nearby server.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and on, or try mobile data.
- Delete the VPN profile under General, VPN and Device Management, then connect again from the app.
